Workload and Data Migration Services

Data migration is a set of processes defined to transfer data between servers, storages, applications, databases and other systems where data is analyzed and stored

Data migrations are processes that allow companies to transfer their informations from one system to another, both an infrastructure and an application. These processes are needed when companies want to replace, modernize or upgrade their systems to improve performance, safety and efficiency.

Another reason why businesses migrate data is to move from on-premise solutions to cloud solutions that offer greater flexibility, scalability, and savings. Finally, data migration may also involve the transfer of information from one data center to another, for example due to geographic proximity or regulatory reasons.

The stages of migration

Consulting activities may include the analysis and diagnosis of the client’s ICT infrastructure, understanding business needs, designing and implementing a suitable technological solution. In this context, System Innovation can intervene at any stage of the ICT infrastructure lifecycle.

1

Preparation

Migrated data and workload analysis, assessment of requirements and involvement of key stakeholders.
2

Planning

Design and definition of migration steps, enstablishment of milestones and cut-over operations, enstablishment of a fail-back plan.
3

Migration

Configuration of source and destination environments and performing migration tasks.
4

Decomissioning of the systems

Monitoring successful migration, closing and deleting old systems.

Workload and Data Migration Services

Migration activities can be differentiated according to different application areas.
Below are some of the key Workload and Data Migration services that System Innovation offers to its customers.

It involves the process of transferring data, applications or other business elements from one on-premises data center to a cloud or from one cloud to another. In many cases, it also involves a storage migration. The service is designed for customers who want to migrate data towards and/or to the cloud and need assistance and coordination of activities in the different project phases. It is also aimed at customers who have already installed and configured the target environment and are ready for data migration. Source and destination environments can be located in both a private cloud and a public cloud.

The service consists in the migration of Exchange, OneDrive and Sharepoint data to Microsoft’s online services, also in hybrid mode depending on the request. The service is aimed towards customers who need basic coordination and dedicated assistance for data migration and email services, as well as customers who have already installed and configured the target Microsoft 365 environment and are ready for migration.

In a V2V (Virtual to Virtual) Migration, a virtual machine (VM), running on a virtualization platform, is copied to a virtual machine running on another virtualization platform. The service consists of migrating a VM to another virtual platform in a short time and without installing or configuring any application.

Both P2V and V2V can be run either hot (such as when local data remains static) or cold (such as a Domain Controller or SQL Server) depending on the data and applications on the source VM.

The service consists of migrating files, shared folders, and access permissions from one system to another. The migration process can take place through the use of specific tools or through custom automated scripts. The target system can assume the identity of the source system so that users and apps don’t have to modify anything to access the existing data.

It can include moving the entire application from an on-premises IT datacenter to a cloud, between different clouds, or simply moving the underlying application data to a new application format hosted by a third-party provider.

The service provides support activities for the migration of an application product from one environment to another. In other cases it involves migrating the functionality and configuration of a product, such as a VMware NSX-V to NSX-T migration where an upgrade process is not feasible.

It can include moving the entire application from an on-premises IT center to a cloud, moving between clouds, or simply moving the underlying application data to a new application format hosted by a software provider.
